My journey into drafting and design began when I was a teenager in high school. I found myself genuinely fascinated by both the technical and creative sides of the drafting and design courses I studied. Some of my first “jobs” were small projects for neighbours and family friends — preparing drawings for a carport addition and designing a cottage bunkhouse. Those early experiences helped confirm that this was the field I wanted to pursue.

After graduating from Fanshawe College with a Diploma in Architectural Technology, I was fortunate to begin doing what I loved: designing and drawing homes. Over the years, I worked on many different projects, but a few remain especially memorable. One was a stone cairn for a church, designed to house the original steeple bell and a new sign board. Another was a “honey hut” used in the commercial production of honey, set on a hill overlooking Georgian Bay. The client didn’t want an ordinary looking farm building, so together we brainstormed a design that functioned well but looked more like a ski chalet. I also had the opportunity to work on a nearly 5,000 square feet series of additions and renovations to a home located at the base of a ski resort — a project I will never forget.

After about ten years in the industry, I felt drawn to another dream: teaching. I returned to school, earned my Diploma in Education from the University of Western Ontario, and became a high school teacher, teaching drafting, design and construction courses. It was a tremendous privilege to pass on my knowledge, interest, and passion for the field. I worked hard to explain complex concepts clearly and to use real‑world examples that helped students understand the “why” behind the work. Hearing from former students who later returned to say I had inspired them in their own drafting and design careers has been one of the most rewarding parts of my life.

When I retired from teaching, I realized I still had more designs in me. I completed the necessary upgrading and became a BCIN‑certified house designer in Ontario. I continue to upgrade my skills through building code and building science courses on a regular basis to ensure that the drawings I prepare are accurate, practical, and code‑compliant.

If you choose to use my services, you can count on someone who strives to provide residential design and drafting work that is functional, practical, code‑compliant, client‑centred, and appealing. I will listen first, ask questions, and work hard to provide you with the home design you want. If there are questions I can’t answer immediately, I will do my best to find the answers and problem‑solve with you. Using modern design and drafting software, my greatest enjoyment comes from helping clients see their residential design ideas become reality. My goal is that you feel listened to, and that your vision will be expertly illustrated in the Ontario building permit drawings that you will receive.
